The Logistics

When is the best time to book my session? It is never too early! Most parents book during their second trimester to ensure availability. We pencil in your due date and then finalize the actual session date once your little one arrives.

What is the ideal age for newborn photos? For those sleepy, curly, editorial poses, the "sweet spot" is between 5 and 14 days old. However, if your baby is already here, don't worry - we specialize in "older newborn" sessions for babies up to 6 weeks old.

Where does the session take place? Sessions are held in our specialized studio in the River Oaks area. Studio address is 2315 Welch st., Houston, TX 77019. The studio is kept at a comfortable 75-80°F to ensure your baby stays warm and sleepy while undressed for photos.

Do you offer in-home newborn sessions? Yes, we do! We recommend booking an in-home session if there are young siblings (less than 5 years old).

The Experience

Do I need to bring my own outfits or props? Not at all. We provide a curated Client Closet featuring high-end wraps, delicate bonnets, and editorial-style outfits for the baby. We also offer a selection of elegant gowns for mothers to ensure a cohesive, timeless look. And a wide variety of outfits for siblings for those precious sibling poses.

How long does a session typically last? Newborn sessions are baby-led and typically last between 2 to 3 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing. We never rush the process; the comfort of your baby is our priority. There is no time limit and we only book one session per day to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort.

Can siblings and parents be included? Absolutely. We believe these first family portraits are invaluable. We usually begin with family and sibling shots so that older children can be finished early, followed by the individual newborn portraits.

Safety & Comfort

How do you ensure my baby’s safety during the shoot? Safety is our absolute priority. We utilize "spotters" for complex poses, and many of our "fable" or "fairy tale" shots are actually composites (two photos merged into one) so the baby is never actually unsupported. Our studio is fully insured, and we maintain a sanitized environment. Mascha also has several newborn safety certificates and is fully vaccinated.

What if my baby doesn't sleep or is fussy? It happens! Some of the most beautiful shots are "awake" shots. We are experts in soothing techniques, and if a baby is particularly restless, we simply take a break for a feeding or a snuggle. We work on the baby's timeline, not ours. Mascha is literally THE baby whisperer of Houston.

After the Session

How soon will I see my images? Within 2 weeks of your session, you will be invited back to the studio (or your home or Zoom) for your Ordering Appointment. This is where you will choose your final images and select any heirloom albums or wall art.

Do you offer digital files? Yes, we offer various collections that include high-resolution digital files. However, our primary focus is providing you with tangible, archival-quality art that can be displayed in your home for generations.

Preparation Tip

We will send you a complete guide of how to prepare for a seamless, stress-free session but here’s a Pro Tip: Try to keep your baby awake for 1-2 hours before arriving at the studio and plan to give them a full feeding right as you arrive. A "milk drunk" baby is a happy, sleepy model!
